Theater, Glorious Theater!!!

Nothing works on stage like a well-crafted tale presented our very own local YPT young people, and OLIVER! is our show. Based on the Dickens novel, it will engage you with its pathos and drama, while delighting you with its outstanding musical numbers. Food, Glorious Food, I'd Do Anything, Where is Love?, Consider Yourself, As Long As He Needs Me, Who Will Buy and Reviewing the Situation are musical theatre classics.

You will be transported to the heart of London where they will “pick your heart” rather than your pocket! Dickens' characters are brought to life-perhaps larger than life-with all their facets glowing through portrayals by the talented young people of YPT

OLIVER! was first presented in London, where it played for 2,618 performances at the New Theatre. It played for 774 performances on Broadway at the Imperial and Shubert Theatres. It has been revived on Broadway several times, as in 1984 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre, and in London in 1994 at the Palladium. And now YPT presents Oliver! on the Lydia Mendelssohn stage for you!

“… this is Dickens as jolly family entertainment!”
Michael Billington. Guardian.co.uk, January 2009

“…It is very nearly universal entertainment …like "The Wizard of Oz" that appeals in many ways to all sorts of people. It will be immediately exciting to the children, I think, because of the story and the unforgettable Dickens characters. Adults will like it for the sweep and zest of its production. And as a work of popular art, it will stand the test of time…”
Roger Ebert, December 22, 1968

“Indeed, no matter how gloomy the economics of January 2009, … this production amounts to one such "small pleasure" not to be denied…”
Fiona Matthias, The Telegraph, January 10, 2009

“As most of us get poorer in coming months, this production is going to make producer Cameron Mackintosh even richer. It's so enjoyable however that I find it impossible to grudge him a penny.”
Charles Spencer, The Telegraph, January 15, 2009
